5 Small Things That Make Me Happy
If you follow me on social media, you may know I’ve been a bit of a grump this week due to feeling “a bit under the weather” as some of us like to say. When I’m poorly though, I don’t just say I’m “a bit under the weather”. I am DRAMATIC. Woe is me. Yes I’ve broken over 300 bones, but give me the common cold or flu and boy do I love a good moan. When you break a bone, you put a pot (cast) on it and carry on. I can’t be dealing with snot galore and sweaty fevers for an unknown amount of time.
Now I realise, there’s a lot more going on in the world and there are many things to be grateful for. So in this post I thought I’d talk about the little things that make me happy. I’m the type of person who can get ridiculously happy over the simplest of things and when you’re poorly it’s nice to remind yourself of these things… so here we go, see if you can relate with any of these…
Electric blanket on cold feet
It’s getting chillier now, the reason I know this is when I’m getting ready for bed, it’s a race to how quick I can get ready and hop into bed before I get too cold. Usually I’m not that quick though so by the time I’ve messed about brushing my teeth and doing my little night routine I’m (particularly my feet) are freezing. So that sigh of relief when my feet hit my heated up mattress from my electric blanket is absolutely glorious. It’s almost impossible not to quietly whisper “ah…”
A frothy hot chocolate
If you follow me on twitter, you’ll know I’m on quite the journey with hot chocolate. I won’t bang on about it but basically I’ve always shrugged off these hot drinks in the past. Years later and I can’t get enough of them. I’ve even bought myself a little milk frother that I can make my own little hot choc with the click of a button. Cadbury’s is my fave at the moment for a home hot choc. Honestly, life changer.

Skipping the TV ads
I know, told you it doesn’t take much. But I’ve been watching a lot of TV while I’ve rested and you know what it’s like. There’s only so many times you can sing along to “we buy any car.com” and “0800 00 1066”. If you don’t live in the UK, you’ll have no idea what I’m on about – trust me you’re not missing much. Anyway, when I realise I have recorded a show and can skip the terrible daytime ads, it just makes me happy you know. Tell me I’m not on my own here…
Waking up and realising you can go back to sleep
Now, when you’re not feeling up to scratch sleep can be tricky can’t it. I don’t know about you but I always panic if I have something to do the next day and I’m not feeling good. I feel like I need a good portion of sleep to “do well”. I know, parents are going to say this is their life every night. But for us non-parents we’re not used to it. So when I wake up and it’s only say, 3am I smile and think, ahhh – still time to shut mi eyes.
Always online
The best thing about technology evolving is being able to keep in touch with everyone even when you can’t get out much. From my bed I can WhatsApp my family chat (mainly to ask for another brew), tweet and ask for cute dog pics (they really are great) and even do a quick online shop.
Aw, nice bit of positivity ey. What small things make you happy? Can you relate to any of these?
I’ve also now got “0800 00 1066” stuck in my head. Brilliant…
